Favorite Movies

My favorite movie(s) are “Cabaret” (1972) directed and choreographed by the beloved Bob Fosse, featuring Liza Minnelli ,and Joel Grey dealing with 1930’s Berlin and the Nazi’s rising to power it is a musical but it deals with real problems of the (supposed year) this is still a controversial movie and play (an exuberant amount of re-makes and revivals of this play have run and still running the “new” version with Michelle Williams starts previews in March and official opening in April running for only 24 weeks) because it deals with being gay and the idea of abortion. Still this is one of my favorite movies because the songs are so catchy ,and a few songs feature some german like the opening song "Wilkommen" meaning "welcome" a great opening number! and I personally love Liza's heart shaped hair through the whole film. Finally my favorite number from the whole movie is the pre-finale where Liza belts out the headlining number "Cabaret" basically telling people to just live your life to the fullest "what good is sitting alone in your room?, come to the Cabaret!"

My second favorite movie is  “Chicago”(2002 version) featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renée Zelweger Richard Gere ,and Queen Latifah. Directed and choreographed by Rob Marshall this is the “new” rendition of the multiple movies and again broadway hit productions based on the original play “Lets play ball” written by Maurine Watkins. This movie is about Roxie Heart and Velma Kelly both destined for stardom but “it all started with a bang” murder that is. This movie is based on the historical trials in 1924 of Belva Gaertner (model for Catherine Zeta Jones character Velma Kelly),and Beulah Annan (Model for Renée Zelwegger’s character Roxie Heart) through out this crime, comedy, musical you get to meet the woman on murderesses row in the Chicago’s crook county jail ,and follow Velma and Roxie’s journey to potential stardom. I love this movie not only because I love the twenties (but who doesn't?) ,and that its a musical, it also has amazing costume design for the "production numbers" this movie is aesthetically pleasing (most of the time) and it has a little bit of everything sex ,sequins ,murder ,music (with strong, memorable lyrics) I just could watch this movie all the time. Again I would highly recommend this film to anyone especially if they love musicals as much as I do.
